In another human-animal conflict fatality, a 62-year-old Mohan Chandra Malasi, resident of Kamand village under Pauri block, was ambushed and mauled to death by a leopard. The incident occurred on Friday evening, around 6.30 PM and triggered panic in the area.
The villagers said that Mohan had gone to a field about 200 meters from his home to collect fodder for his goats. A leopard, already lying in ambush, pounced upon him. As he did not return home, his relatives and villagers began searching for him. After about an hour of searching, his badly mutilated body was found.
The villagers complained that leopard activity had increased in the area for some time with the Forest department doing nothing to address their insecurity. Following the incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene and vented anger against the forest department and administration.
Notably, Mohan worked as a labourer and the only earner in his family.
