In an apparent attempt to promote agriculture and organic farming  in the State, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ploughed his parental farm in Nagla Tarai of Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district on Monday. The CM also operated a handheld tiller in the field. After ploughing the field the CM  also spread the manure made from the cow. His mother, Bishna Devi, was also present with him in the field.

While working in the fields, the CM underscored the importance of the hard work done by the farmers and agricultural traditions. He said that farming is not just a means of livelihood, but the soul of Indian culture and the rural economy. By adopting traditional and natural farming along with modern technology, agriculture can be made more prosperous and sustainable, he opined.

Dhami said that natural methods like use of cow dung manure not only increase soil fertility but also play an important role in environmental protection. He urged farmers to reduce their dependence on chemical fertilizers and move towards organic and natural farming. He said that the State government is continuously working to increase farmers’ income, modernize agriculture and promote organic products.

The CM said that Uttarakhand’s identity is linked to agriculture, rural culture and nature. The State government is providing assistance to farmers through various schemes to promote traditional farming, horticulture, natural agriculture, and local products. He added that connecting the younger generation to agriculture and rural development is also the need of the hour.
