Female drug peddler held with 709 gm hashish on Yamunotri Highway

Barkot police arrested a female drug trafficker  during a checking drive  on the Yamunotri National Highway and recovered 709 gram of hashish estimated to be worth about Rs 1.4 lakh in the market. The police team, engaged in the drive, said that they have been carrying on the campaign to make Uttarkashi district drug-free under the direction of the superintendent of police, Kamlesh Upadhyay.

Sharing more details about the arrested accused, the inspector in-charge, Kotwali Barkot, Subhash Chandra said that the accused had been identified as 56-year-old Uma Devi. “When the police team was conducting a checking drive near Paligad on Yamunotri National Highway a woman was found moving around suspiciously. When she was searched 709 grams of hashish was recovered from her possession. Based on the arrest and seizure, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 8/20 of NDPS Act. Police are taking further legal action in the case,” he said, adding that they are now investigating the source of the recovered hashish and whether it was planned to be consumed or sold.

Praising the police team for this achievement, the SP, Kamlesh Upadhyay said that six drug peddlers had been arrested in five NDPS Act cases in the past two months. “Police have seized more than three kg of hashish worth Rs 6.5 lakh during this period. Police checks will continue and surveillance will be intensified further along major routes, including border areas,” she declared.
