The chief development officer, S L Semwal inaugurated the district’s first herbal tea processing unit under the Gramothan (REAP) project at Kaleshwar Mahadev Autonomous Cooperative in Dilsaur under Bhatwari development block.
While hailing the venture, he said that this herbal tea unit would provide a new opportunity of self-employment to rural women and help in strengthening their livelihood. “This initiative is meant to make women self-reliant with the use of natural resources,” he added.
In the unit, women from self-help groups are preparing various blends from seabuckthorn, basil, rhododendron, rose and green tea. These herbal tea products are all set to be launched in the market under the brand name Hilans/House of Himalaya. These products are expected to have good demand in the market which will, in turn, strengthen the local economy.
