Four youths arrested for fatal bike racing on Rajpur Road

Four youths were arrested on Sunday for causing the death of a young man during a bike racing incident on Rajpur Road. The accident took place on the night of February 27 near Aketa Hotel under Dalanwala police station area. The police said the accused were riding two motorcycles at very high speed on a busy road where the speed limit is low. According to the police, the two speeding bikes hit a Rapido motorcycle. Ankit Pal, who was riding as a passenger on the Rapido and the rider were seriously injured. Both were taken to Government Doon Medical College hospital, where doctors declared Pal dead. After a complaint was filed by his mother, Usha Pal, a case was registered against the riders of the two motorcycles.
During the investigation, CCTV footage showed that the youths were racing with each other. The pillion riders were encouraging the riders to go faster. Due to overspeeding and darkness near the spot, the bikes collided with the Rapido vehicle. The footage also showed that one of the riders ran over a person who had fallen on the road.
The police arrested the four accused — Pranjal Ramola, Abhishek Badoni, Lokendra alias Lokesh and Sumit Rathauri. Initially, a case of causing death by negligence was registered, but after reviewing the CCTV footage, the police added the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal warned that playing with others’ lives will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against those who violate traffic rules and endanger public safety.
