All-India Network Programme on Organic Farming is now being run at NEB Crop Research Centre of GBP University of Agriculture and Technology under a project funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram. This project is being run at GBPUAT since 2004-05. Under this project, an integrated organic farming model is being developed in one acre of land with the aim of facilitating small farmers to earn throughout the year. This model encompasses cattle rearing, fish farming, sugarcane based crop production and vegetable production.
The project officer, D K Singh apprised the vice chancellor, Manmohan Singh Chauhan of the efficacy of this model in ensuring an income of Rs 2.5 to 3.0 lakh per year from one acre of land through adoption of organic farming methods.
While appreciating the model, the VC directed poultry and goat rearing be included into this one acre organic farming model.
