Tourism schemes to transform rural economy: DM

The district magistrate, Prashant Arya said that Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Scheme and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Home Stay Scheme would revive tourism in the district and provide self-employment and livelihood opportunities for the local youth.  He said this while chairing a meeting of the district-level planning implementation and monitoring committee for these two important tourism schemes. On this occasion, the DM spoke to those who had applied under these schemes.    He advised the applicants to prioritise cleanliness, food quality, parking facilities and other tourist needs while operating homestays. Furthermore, promotion of local culture and traditions should also be a key priority, he said.

In the meeting, proposals related to taxi service, guest house construction and adventure activities were considered under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Scheme. For 2025-26, a total of 20 applications were considered in this scheme while interviews were conducted for the targeted 28 applications under Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Housing Scheme.

He stated that the objective of these schemes is not just to provide financial assistance but to promote tourism, preserve local culture and strengthen rural economy.
