GBPUAT scientists felicitated for developing new barley variety

Scientists of the Genetics and Breeding of the G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology were felicitated at the national level for developing a new variety of barley, Pant Barley-1106 (UPB 1106).

During the 64th All India Wheat and Barley Researchers Annual Conference held in Gwalior, the Union Agriculture, Farmer Welfare and Rural Development Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan felicitated the scientists of Pantnagar University- Jai Prakash Jaiswal, Swati, Anil Kumar, Rajiv and Deepshikha- by presenting them with mementoes and certificates. On this occasion, the Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development minister of Madhya Pradesh, Adil Singh Kansana and director general of ICAR, M L Jat were also present.

The project coordinator, Jai Prakash Jaiswal said that Pant Barley-1106 is a six-row high production capacity variety which had taken 12 years to develop. Its average yield is 44.57 quintals per hectare and potential yield capacity is 74.93 quintals per hectare.

The vice- chancellor, GBPUAT, Manmohan Singh Chauhan, director Research A S Nain and dean Agriculture, Subhash Chandra congratulated the scientists.
