The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has launched a special initiative, a total of 884 smart TVs have been approved for classrooms of 168 government secondary schools operating in six development blocks of the district. Under this plan, classrooms in government schools are being equipped with smart teaching facilities.
A total of 884 smart TVs will be installed in 168 government secondary schools of Dehradun at a cost of Rs 3.67 crore. With this, every classroom will be connected to a digital learning system. Through smart TVs, teachers will be able to use audio-visual content, e-learning modules, educational videos and digital study material, making lessons more interesting and effective for students.
The project aims to reduce the digital gap between government and private schools and ensure equal learning opportunities for students in both rural and urban areas. Students will also get access to platforms like DIKSHA, PM e-Vidya and virtual classrooms, which will help improve their understanding and learning outcomes.
The funds for this project have been provided from the District Mineral Trust. Smart TVs are being purchased in two sizes according to classroom needs. Earlier, the district administration had also provided furniture to all government schools using Rs 5 crore from CSR funds.
The smart TVs are being procured through a transparent e-tender process on the GeM portal. Officials said the supply and installation work will begin soon and will be completed within the set time limit. The district administration said this initiative will strengthen digital education and bring a positive change in the quality of teaching in government schools.
