The Patel Nagar police have arrested an accused who had allegedly opened fire outside a cafe in Patel Nagar area on July 19. The accused was identified as Shubham Panwar (27), a resident of Jhabreda in Haridwar. A .32 pistol, used in the crime and three live cartridges, were recovered from his possession, police said.
The complainant, Sunny Chaudhary alleged that Shubham and another accused, Yuvraj, had opened fire at him with the intention to kill him. Subsequently, a case was registered at Patelnagar police station, and a special team was formed to investigate the incident.
Police examined CCTV footage, collected evidence and searched for the accused at different locations. Shubham was eventually arrested on Wednesday from the Chandrabani area. During questioning, he is learnt to have told the police that he had a financial dispute of Rs 1.5 lakh with Sunny. The two were once close friends, but their relationship turned sour later over the money-related dispute.
As per police, Shubham went to meet Sunny to settle the dispute. However, an argument broke out, and he allegedly fired at Sunny with the pistol he was carrying. The bullet did not hit the complainant because people nearby intervened, after which the accused fled the spot.
Police said that they are on the lookout for the second accused and further investigation is underway.
