Guv urges all to take environment pledge on World Environment Day

 On the occasion of World Environment Day, Governor Lt Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh appealed to the people of the State to pledge to protect and promote the environment and make it a part of their daily lives. “Our environment is the most unique gift of nature: pure air, clean water, greenery and biodiversity. We have inherited all this and it is our duty to collectively protect it,” he said.

In a special mention of the natural bounty Uttarakhand is blessed with, he said that mountains, forests, rivers and diverse wildlife are not just the identity of the State but the heritage of whole humanity. He called for vigilance in view of the emerging challenges like climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity while stressing on planting trees, stopping plastic use, maintaining cleanliness of water sources and keeping the environment clean. He urged all to make all-out efforts to leave a clean and beautiful earth for the coming generation.
