College rivalry turns fatal, student beaten to death in Doon

A violent clash between two groups of students reportedly from Uttaranchal University in the Premnagar area led to the death of a 22-year-old student on Monday night. During the fight, second year BTech student Divanshu Jatrana was seriously injured and died later during treatment. Three accused have been arrested in this case, police said.

The accused have been identified as Yuvraj Kumar (20) hailing from Bihar, Madhur Khandelwal (19) from Rudrapur and Shivam Sharma (20) from Bihar. 

According to the police, they received on 112 that a clash between two groups near Kehri village, Premnagar where a young man was seriously injured. He was first taken to the nearest hospital from where he was referred to the Government Doon Medical College hospital. The police transported the injured victim in their vehicle to the hospital as the ambulance sought was not functioning. His family was also informed about the incident. According to officials, Jatrana died late on Monday night during treatment.

Following the incident, police took the body into custody and sent it for post mortem examination. Based on the complaint given by the family, a case has been registered against 15 people at Premnagar police station. Police have arrested three students involved in the case, while efforts are being made to catch the remaining accused. Officials said that both groups were studying in the same private institute and had an old dispute, which led to the violent clash.
