The Uttarakhand High Court heard a public interest litigation filed against the village head of Khati village in the Kalsi development block of Dehradun district for providing MNREGA benefits to his own people instead of the registered labourers.

After hearing the case, the division bench of Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Subhash Upadhyay, while disposing of the petition, directed that a complaint regarding the irregularities be lodged with the Panchayat Raj department.

The court sources said that Gopal Singh, a resident of Khati village, had filed a public interest litigation stating that instead of providing benefits to the job card holders in 2024, the village head had made payments by filling out fake muster rolls for his close relatives and government employees. This was against the interests of unemployed labourers employed under the scheme, the petitioner said and added that  the village head had snatched the employment rights of job card holders.
