Portals to open on April 19: MLA, ADM inspect Gangotri Yatra route

With the portal-opening ceremony for Gangotri slated on April 19, the MLA Suresh Chauhan and the additional district magistrate Mukta Mishra along with a number of senior officials conducted a comprehensive field inspection from the district headquarters to Gangotri Dham. While reviewing the major stops, roads and basic facilities on the Yatra route, they expressed serious concerns over the condition of damaged retaining walls along Ujeli and Gangori stretches of Gangotri National Highway. They directed the Border Roads Organisation officials to immediately begin repair work and remove construction materials and debris found dumped along the roadside. As regards the drainage problem near the Forest department checkpoint, they asked the officers concerned to construct drains and make the road pothole-free.
While inspecting the road damaged due to the disaster in Bhatwari area, instructions were given to install wire crate walls near the river, remove debris falling from hills and widen the road.
The MLA expressed strong displeasure over the slow progress in the road reconstruction work in disaster-affected Limchiagad and directed the officials concerned to expedite.
While reviewing the roads damaged by landslides and river erosion in Dabrani area, instructions were given to immediately begin permanent protection work. Further, the ongoing construction and improvement works in the Harsil and Dharali areas were inspected. Chauhan stressed on ensuring uninterrupted power supply of electricity and drinking water at every stop along the pilgrimage route.
After they reached Gangotri Dham, they met the temple committee members and discussed Yatra arrangements. Among those present at the meeting were the secretary of the temple committee, the sub-divisional magistrate and the district tourism officer.
