The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the Union budget has no solution for various economic, social and political challenges facing the nation. Reacting to the budget, he said that “mission mode” has now become a “challenge route” while the “reform express” hardly stops at any “reform” junction. He opined that the Centre lacks a policy vision and political willpower. “Our farmers are still waiting for effective welfare assistance or income security plans. Inequality has gone beyond colonial era levels but the budget doesn’t even mention it while also providing no assistance to SC, ST, OBC, EWS and the minorities. The recommendations of the Finance Commission will have to be studied further but it doesn’t seem as if States facing serious financial problems will get any relief,” Arya said.
The Congress leader further said that there is no revival strategy for the manufacturing sector, questioning the effect of Make In India. There is no serious plan for increasing the presence of women in the workforce or among the youths seeking employment. He questioned the result of the previous internship and skill development schemes. The budget has provided no relief from price rise especially to the poor and middle-class. Savings are decreasing and debts are rising while salaries remain the same, he said.
