PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi

To effectively curb spiralling road accidents, the traffic police in Uttarkashi launched an intensive checking drive in the district headquarters on Tuesday under the direction of the superintendent of police Kamlesh Upadhyay during which strict action was taken against those found violating traffic rules. A total of 52 challans were issued under the Motor Vehicles Act for various traffic violations, including riding without a helmet, triple-riding, over-speeding, drunk driving and unauthorised parking.

During checking, a motorcyclist was caught driving inebriated. Traffic police arrested him and impounded his vehicle.   Police said that such drives would continue and the traffic rule violators would be penalised.  They at the same time have appealed to the people to follow traffic rules while driving and riding.
