PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The enforcement team of Regional Transport Office (RTO) has instructed the representatives of the prepaid taxi union operating at Jolly Grant Airport to report to the RTO office in Dehradun with valid documentation. According to the officials, this action follows complaints regarding irregularities  being committed by taxi drivers at Jolly Grant Airport and its surrounding areas, including unauthorised operation of prepaid taxis.

Notably, the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) in Dehradun, Anita Chamola had constituted a team comprising two transport tax officers in Dehradun and directed them to conduct a surprise inspection at the airport.

The officials, privy to the inspection details, said that during the inspection, the team discovered that some taxis were operating at the airport, displaying a sign of “prepaid taxis.” When the team spoke with the union representatives, they claimed that these taxis were operating with the consent of the police. However, when asked for the consent letter or any valid documents related to the operation of these prepaid taxis, the representatives were unable to provide any documentation on the spot.

Moreover, the Airport Authority in Jolly Grant has received numerous complaints regarding irregularities involving prepaid taxi drivers, the officials said.

They added that post- inspection, the enforcement team has instructed the union representatives to present themselves at the RTO office in Dehradun with valid documents. They have also been asked to provide a comprehensive list of all the vehicles operating under the union, along with the names, addresses and mobile numbers of the drivers.
