Jal Sansthan employees to start indefinite protest today

To press for their longstanding demands, members of the Karmchari Adhikari Sanyukt Morcha will launch an indefinite protest starting July 6 at the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) headquarters. They had recently protested demanding that UJS be made a government body. Additionally, they also oppose the State’s decision to transfer revenue collection responsibilities to Peyjal Nigam. During the earlier protest, they emphasised that UJS manages maintenance and revenue collection, while Peyjal Nigam is responsible for construction work. However, the situation has changed, with Peyjal Nigam now being tasked with revenue collection. This is adversely affecting Jal Sansthan employees, as they struggle to disburse salaries that are based on revenue collection.

Citing a lack of action on their demands, the Morcha recently held a meeting with relevant officials and determined that the protest will continue at the UJS headquarters from Monday till their demands are met, including converting UJS into a government department. On the first day, employees from Dehradun, and on the second day, Kotdwar will participate, with personnel from other districts joining in on subsequent days.

Morcha advisor Jaipal Singh Chauhan stated that the department is currently facing existential challenges and if the personnel do not unite in a timely manner, the department may encounter serious issues in the future.Chief coordinator Nandlal Joshi announced that this protest will focus solely on the demand for nationalisation of the UJS, with no compromises on any other issues.
