PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The secretary (Appraisal )at Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) Maneesh Semwal informed that localities relying on water sources such as rivers, springs and Nalas often experience a supply of muddy water during the monsoon season. This issue occurs in many places during the monsoon and can be a concern for residents.

Semwal informed that dirty water, primarily surface water, is typically observed in areas where the water sources are not groundwater, but rather rivers, springs, Nalas and similar sources. However, he pointed out that Dehradun district is particularly affected by this problem during the monsoon season. Specifically, the Raipur and Ladpur areas of Dehradun face the most significant issues due to illegal water connections. Residents in these areas are advised to connect to authorised water lines to address the problem, he said.

He further added that to combat the quality of water from muddy water and other issues during the monsoon season, they used to add alum into the treatment plant. This year, the necessary supply of alum has already been provided at the filtration plant. Semwal also noted that UJS has prepared for the challenges of the monsoon season.

According to UJS chief general manager DK Singh, necessary materials for the season have been stockpiled and required instructions have been issued to officials. He stated that a total of 280 kilometres of SFP pipes have been stocked for temporary restoration of water supply schemes affected during the monsoon, as well as around 200 kilometres of GI pipes for permanent restoration. Additionally, officials have been directed to remain alert and on call throughout the monsoon season.
