Kanwad Patri patch sinks due to leaking pipeline, HRDA steps up

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Haridwar
A portion of the Kanwad Patri in Haridwar sank here on Friday after a patch was washed of due to a leakage in a water pipeline.
A pipeline of the Peyjal Nigam was leaking on the Kanwad Patri- meant to be used by Kanwadiyas- which passes through the Har Ki Paidi area and CCR. The leakage worsened and resulted in the subsidence.
The Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) vice chairman Anshul Singh took charge of the situation and got the officials to start the repair work without delay. He informed that an alternate route had been prepared as a temporary option so that the Kanwad Yatra is not disrupted.
Singh further informed that a Peyjal Nigam pipeline had been installed under the route in 1972. This pipeline developed a leak probably due to it being in a deteriorated state. He said that the pipeline will be repaired and the damaged patch of the route will also be repaired on the same day.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than one crore Kanwadiyas have so far visited Haridwar with the stream of visitors expected to continue during the next few days.
