The department of Zoology, DSB campus, Kumaun University organised a two-day workshop to commemorate the World Fisheries Day. The primary objective of the workshop was to familiarise students, researchers, interns and local fish farmers with scientific fish farming techniques and new opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment, the university sources said.
The vice- chancellor, Diwan Singh Rawat lauded the university’s ‘Lab to Village’ approach, stating that disseminating cutting-edge research directly to farmers is at the core of KU’s academic and social commitment. The university aimed to place Uttarakhand among the top 15 fish-producing states in the country, he added. The Biofloc Fish Technology Centre was established in the department of Zoology in 2024 with the primary objective of reviving the snow trout, a native fish species of Naini Lake.
