KU hosts plantation to mark Harela festival

While addressing a tree plantation programme organised in Kumaun University to mark the Harela festival, the registrar, Mangal Singh Mandrawal said that the most precious gift that a human could give to Earth was a plant. “It is our moral responsibility to keep the Earth green through planting trees,” he added.
Earlier, he had planted many saplings, including those of deodar, lotus and hibiscus. The programme was organised by the Directorate of Visiting Professors, IGNOU, Alumni Cell and Botany department presided over by the head of the Botany department, Prof Lalit Tiwari. He, in his address, said that Harela festival connects them with nature. “The saplings of the plants we are planting are not just of religious and cultural significance but are rich with medicinal qualities,” he added. All the saplings planted on the occasion were provided by the Forest department.
