The number of seats in the nursing colleges of the State has been increased by 1,790 in Uttarakhand. A decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of the empowered committee for the administration of nursing courses held at the secretariat on Friday. The meeting was chaired by the chief secretary Anand Bardhan.
In the meeting the committee gave its approval to create 1,790 more seats in 39 nursing colleges of the State. The committee also recommended the operation of nursing courses and an increase in the number of seats in various medical and nursing colleges.
The CS directed that a single-window system for processing of the applications for the nursing course should be created. This will avoid the hassle of processing of these applications at various levels, he said. The CS added that the single window system would simplify the process, from application to government approval. Bardhan also ordered creation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covering the various stages of the process, from application by institutions to the end of the programme.
The Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar informed that there are a total of 21,541 nurses registered with the State Nursing Council in the State. He said that currently, 9,806 individuals are undergoing nursing training in government and private nursing colleges of the State.
