Leopard attacks bike-borne youth

In latest news from Uttarakhand, a two- wheeler-borne youth faced leopard ambush and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the Barkot community health centre where he was being treated as per the last report received. On being informed of the incident, the forest officers and staffers reached the spot and tried to trace the feline but the big cat remained elusive. The injured youth was identified as Laxman Singh from Naugaun village. He was going to Bhatiya village on his motorbike when the leopard pounced upon him and bit him on his arms, legs and back. As he screamed for help, people from neighbourhood rushed out and shooed the feline away following which he was a transported to the health centre. Meanwhile, the people living in nearby places are in fear after this incident. They demanded the forest department to catch the leopard immediately and ensure their safety. The forest department officers assured them, saying that they were trying their best to capture the leopard. However, a senior forest officer said that the felines are straying into the populated areas in search of food with their prey base dwindling in the forest.
