Teenager shot dead under ‘mysterious’ circumstances, accused at large

A 18-year-old Sumit Chaudhary, alias Panchhi, died from a gunshot wound in Dayal Enclave, Jamalpur Kalan under Kankhal police station area, sparking speculations over whether it was an accident or linked to intra-gang rivalry. Police said that as per the preliminary investigation, the bullet had accidentally gone off an unlicensed firearm when his friends were testing it.
After the incident, his friends took him to Bhumanand Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. After this, they escaped and are at large.
Based on a complaint from the deceased’s brother, Puneet Chaudhary, the police registered a case against Sawan, Krishna and two unidentified youths. SSP Pramendra Dobhal inspected the scene and formed special teams to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, reports started circulating on social media, seeking to link the incident to internal rivalry within a gang. However, the superintendent of police (City) Pankaj Gairola denied it, saying that it was an accidental death. “Police are on the lookout for the accused and they will be brought to book soon,” he added.
