Man run over by Chandigarh Roadways bus outside ISBT

A man died after a Chandigarh Roadways bus hit him outside the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun around 10 AM on Thursday. According to the police, the bus was moving towards the ISBT Chowk turn when it struck the pedestrian in front of the ISBT police outpost. The impact killed the man on the spot. Police reached the location soon after receiving information and took control of the situation. The officials said that the police sent the body to the district hospital for further procedures and took the bus driver into custody. They informed that the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized for investigation. They said that initial inquiries are underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision. They informed that the deceased was identified as Swaraj Singh Chauhan, a 67-year-old resident of Savai village in the Kalsi area of Dehradun district. His family members have been informed about the incident. Authorities are verifying CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events and assess whether negligence was involved, as per the officials. The road near the ISBT Chowk remained partially disrupted for some time following the incident but was later cleared for traffic. The officials said that further legal action will follow after the completion of post-mortem and necessary documentation. They added that the investigation aims to confirm responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the area, which witnesses heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement daily.
