Dehradun police arrested a man on Monday for drunk driving and creating disturbance on a public road at Johri Tiraha under Rajpur police station area. The man had stopped his car in the middle of the road, causing traffic congestion and creating trouble for commuters, police said. He also allegedly pulled out a knife and held it up to the police personnel deployed on traffic duty at the spot.
Video of this incident had meanwhile gone viral on social media. Upon receiving the information from traffic control police, the Jakhan police outpost team reached the location. Police conducted an alco-meter test of the driver, which confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol. The police then seized the car under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and arrested the driver.
The accused was identified as Vinay, 31, a resident of Sector 13 in Bhiwani, Haryana. During inquiry, his wife is learnt to have informed police that he has been mentally disturbed since 2021 and is undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Delhi.
She said that she had recently come to her parental home in Dehradun along with her husband.
