MCD councillors push for swift action on board decisions

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) councillors on Monday demanded speedy implementation of key proposals passed during the recent board meeting, saying that delays in execution could affect development works and civic facilities in the city.

A group of councillors met mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action on resolutions that were approved unanimously by the board.

The councillors said that important proposals including the hike in salaries of municipal employees, recruitment of 715 sanitation workers and several ward-related development proposals, should be implemented without unnecessary delay.

They argued that these decisions were taken in public interest and would directly benefit sanitation workers, municipal employees, councillors and residents across the city. The councillors also expressed concern about further delay in implementation if approvals at higher levels take long.

The delegation led by councillor Amita Singh urged the mayor to ensure that the board’s unanimous decisions are respected and acted upon quickly so that pending civic works can move forward. According to councillors, issues such as a shortage of sanitation staff, pending ward-level development works and civic infrastructure projects require urgent attention, especially with the city expanding rapidly.

Responding to the delegation, the mayor stated that the implementation process for the approved proposals has started and the remaining formalities will be completed soon. He assured councillors that necessary action would be taken to ensure the timely execution of the decisions passed in the board meeting. Thapliyal said that several proposals approved during the meeting are currently in different stages of administrative processing and coordination with the departments concerned is underway.
