The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has broken past property tax records by collecting Rs 72 crore in the financial year which ended on Tuesday.
MCD tax superintendent Rahul Kainthola said that the corporation had collected Rs 72 in property tax while also considering the rebates provided to citizens.
The corporation had set a target of Rs 75 crore for the financial year. While the current collection reflects improved compliance and stronger enforcement, the civic body remained short of its target. The last-day rush by taxpayers played a key role in boosting the overall figures, with many residents clearing their pending dues before the deadline.
Officials attributed the performance to awareness drives, stricter action against defaulters and the availability of digital payment options. It is pertinent to mention here that the MCD had collected Rs 57 crore in property tax in 2023-24 and Rs 60 crore in 2024-25. Property tax is a major source of revenue for the corporation and the funds generated from this source are also used for further enhancing the condition of the provisional State capital.
