MCD continues action against encroachment and littering

The Municipal Corporation Dehradun (MCD) on Friday continued its action against encroachment and littering in the city on the directions of the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal.

The drive was led by additional municipal commissioner Praveen Kumar and included assistant municipal commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, assistant municipal commissioner (Land) Vinay Pratap, along with CSI/SI officials and the Quick Response Team. Officials said that inspection and enforcement action was conducted in the area from MKP to Bakralwala and from Parade Ground to Gandhi Park.

During the drive, the Health section issued 32 challans and imposed a fine of Rs 24,900 for littering. A shopkeeper in Indira Market was also fined Rs 2,000 for burning garbage. Debris found at public places was removed and individuals were instructed to dispose of construction waste as per rules.

Under the Land section, action was taken against encroachments on main roads. Officials issued 21 challans and collected Rs 7,500 on the spot. The team also removed 18 banners, five posters, 23 boards, two counters and three sugarcane juice machines from public space. The QRT team also carried out enforcement action in New Friends Colony and Ajabpur, where 10 challans were issued and a fine of Rs 13,700 was imposed.

Officials said that enforcement teams have been directed to identify people dumping construction and demolition (C&D) waste, installing illegal hoardings, encroaching on public land or spreading garbage on main roads. The civic body said that the drive will continue in the coming days.
