The veterinary section of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) took action against dairies accused of dumping cow dung illegally and creating unhygienic conditions in residential areas of the city on Tuesday.

During inspections carried out in various wards, MCD teams issued challans and notices to several dairy owners following complaints from residents about foul smell, filth and improper waste disposal. In Dehrakhas, senior municipal veterinary officer Dr Varun Aggarwal inspected the area near a community centre in the presence of councillor Alok Kumar. The team found that some dairy owners were dumping cow dung in open areas around the premises, leading to sanitation issues in the locality. Aggarwal distributed animal registration forms and directed the owners to clean the area within three days, warning of further action if the instructions are ignored.

A similar inspection was also conducted in Vidya Vihar, where dairy owners were asked to complete registration formalities and were warned against dumping waste into drains.

At Dobhal Chowk, the team inspected Pahalwan Dairy in Nehrugram Garhwali Colony after repeated complaints from residents. Aggarwal said that the dairy had already received two notices earlier but corrective action was not taken. The corporation issued a challan notice of Rs 41,000 and warned that the dairy could be sealed if the amount is not paid and conditions are not improved.

Another dairy near Doon Trafalgar Society in Dhoran was also issued a challan of Rs 20,000 after complaints regarding poor hygiene and improper disposal of cow dung. He said that action had been taken against the same dairy earlier as well.

During an inspection at Himjyoti Enclave near Shimla Bypass in Pithuwala, Aggarwal found a dairy allegedly operating without registration and dumping dung into a drain. The owner was issued a Rs 20,000 challan.

The corporation warned that strict action, including sealing of dairies, would be taken if repeated violations continue.
