The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Thursday conducted a special inspection drive at meat shops in the Araghar Chowk and Chunabhatta areas on the directions of the Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey, to check compliance with civic regulations and food hygiene standards. During the drive, several meat vendors were found operating without the required licences and the MCD’s No Objection Certificate (NOC). The civic body imposed fines totalling Rs 45,250 for various violations and also issued notices amounting to Rs 5,000.
The inspection also revealed unhygienic conditions at several establishments. Officials found old meat and chicken stored in deep freezers, raising concerns over food safety. Most shops were also found to be without generator backup, which could affect the proper preservation of meat during power outages, particularly in the ongoing monsoon season.
The corporation urged all meat vendors to maintain proper hygiene, keep their premises clean and ensure the scientific disposal of meat and other waste to prevent public health hazards. The officials warned that strict action will continue against those violating civic and hygiene norms.
