Kanwad Yatra to follow designated routes, says police

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

The Dehradun police are ensuring that Kanwadiyas follow only the designated routes for the Kanwad Yatra and that vehicles are parked only at authorised parking areas, police officials said. On Thursday, superintendent of police (Rural) Jaya Baluni inspected the Kanwad Yatra routes and reviewed the security arrangements in Rishikesh.

Recently, a video has gone viral on social media of Haridwar where police are seen to stop some Kanwadiyas from a restricted road but they insist on going there and in a heated argument somehow one Kanwad fell on ground. The Kanwadiya alleged that whoever did this was under the influence of alcohol while the Haridwar police denied the claims and said that the police personnel’s alcohol test result was negative. After this incident, police have intensified the security arrangement to make the Yatra smooth for Kanwadiyas.

On the instruction of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal, the bomb disposal squad carried out intensive checking at Triveni Ghat, Aastha Path, Rishikesh bus stand, railway station, Transit Camp, shops and other crowded places. Police also appealed to the public to immediately inform the nearest police post or the police control room if they notice any suspicious person or object.

Meanwhile, Baluni inspected Kanwad Yatra locations, including Pali Tiraha, IDPL Parking, Natraj Chowk, Visthapit Parking and Ganga ghats and reviewed the security arrangements. She instructed police personnel to ensure that the Kanwad Yatra follows only the designated routes and basic facilities are available for devotees. SSP Dobal said that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the Kanwad Yatra is conducted safely and smoothly.
