MCD passes Rs 329 crore budget for 2025–26

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Tuesday approved a budget of Rs 329.35 crore for the financial year 2025–26, laying emphasis on sanitation, solid waste management, streetlights and infrastructure development.

The board, in the presence of Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, municipal commissioner Namami Bansal and all councillors approved the budget. For 2024–25, the MCD had a budget of Rs 310 crore but the actual spending reached about Rs 280 crore. This year, the approved budget is Rs 329.35 crore.

The mayor informed that Rs 14.80 crore has been allocated for solid waste management, while streetlight-related expenditure is estimated at Rs 12 crore. Development works, including roads, drains, parks and crematoriums, have been earmarked Rs 66.74 crore. Under the 15th Finance Commission grant, water supply and sanitation will receive Rs 9.46 crore, solid waste management Rs 9.46 crore and development works Rs 31.41 crore.

Thapliyal said that the focus of the new budget will remain on strengthening waste management systems, improving streetlight facilities and speeding up development projects across the city.
