The protest by sanitation workers at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) entered its third day on Tuesday with workers announcing that they will shift their protest to the secretariat from Wednesday over the delay in approval of their pending demands. According to the Safai Karmachari Union, no positive response has been received despite three days of protests at the MCD. Union leaders said that the civic body has informed them that it cannot take a decision on the issues as the proposals are pending with the State government.
Union president Sonu Khairwal said that sanitation workers will stage a sit-in outside the secretariat from Wednesday and continue the protest till the government responds to their demands. He said that the agitation would be intensified if the pending proposals remain unapproved.
The workers are demanding approval of the proposed Rs 800 increase in the honorarium of Paryavaran Mitras, recruitment of 715 Paryavaran Mitras and revision of the cut-off date for regularisation from 2018 to 2024.
Khairwal said that sanitation workers have been waiting for a decision for several months and urged the State government to clear the pending proposals at the earliest. The protest will continue till concrete action is taken on their demands, he said.
