The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is focusing on meeting its property tax target. Assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said that the MCD property tax target for the financial year 2025–26 is Rs 75 crore but collections so far have reached about Rs 46 crore. With just two months remaining in the financial year, the shortfall is putting pressure on the corporation.
To boost revenue, the cCorporation started organising special house tax collection camps across the city from January 17. A camp in Subhash Nagar collected Rs 7,49,157 while a camp in other wards resulted in collection of more than Rs 16 lakh.
“The initiative is already yielding results,” Pratap said, adding that the nearly Rs two crore has been collected through WhatsApp payments alone.
Officials believe that the combination of property tax camps collection camp and whatsapp online payment options will help accelerate collections and enable the corporation to move closer to its revenue target before the end of the financial year.
