In response to recent incidents of ragging at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), the director of Medical Education, Dr Ajay Arya has instructed the anti-ragging committee to conduct daily inspections of the hostels. He said this on Thursday while he was conducting a surprise inspection of the college, during which he engaged with the MBBS batch of 2025 as well as senior students. He listened to their concerns and assured them that all complaints would be addressed promptly.
Arya inquired about various issues related to studies, hostels, food, security and the overall academic environment. He emphasised that student safety is the administration’s primary responsibility. Moreover, he encouraged students to approach their teachers or mentors with any problems they might face, reminding them that teachers should be viewed as guardians.
During the inspection, a comprehensive review of the college’s security measures, hostel arrangements, hostel staff and the operations of the anti-ragging squad was also conducted. Arya directed the installation of suggestion boxes in the hostels and instructed the anti-ragging committee to expand the capacity of the squad. This step is deemed necessary to prevent the recurrence of ragging incidents and to ensure a safe, fear-free environment for all students, he said.
He further instructed the college administration to prioritise student safety and to improve facilities. Arya underscored the importance of taking the complaints from the hostels seriously and ensuring that they are resolved promptly. He affirmed that these measures are crucial not only to prevent ragging but also to foster a positive and secure academic atmosphere in the hostels. He further assured that the directorate would provide all possible support to the college.
