The member (Policy and Research), National Dam Safety Authority under Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, Pramod Narayan conducted on Wednesday a comprehensive inspection of the 300 MW Lakhwar Multipurpose Project now under construction on bank of Yamuna and the 120 MW Vyasi Hydroelectric Project being operated by UJVN Limited and reviewed the construction works, dam safety arrangements and safe operation of the projects.
During his inspection of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project, he took a close look at the project’s current progress and reviewed various aspects of the construction work. He directed officials of L&T, the project’s executing agency, to seriously consider all possible options and expedite the work to complete the project within the stipulated time frame. He said that as this project is extremely important for the energy and water resource needs of the state as well as the region, both quality and timeliness must be ensured in its construction.
He specifically cited the provisions of the Dam Safety Act, 2021, stating that all work during project construction must be carried out in accordance with prescribed standards and technical quality. He also prioritised the safety of officers, engineers, employees, and workers working at the construction site.
Thereafter, he inspected the Juddo Dam of the Vyasi Hydroelectric Project and observed various structural components of the dam, including its drainage and control systems, emergency warning systems, dam safety equipment and maintenance arrangements.
Following the inspection, he stated that regular inspections, timely maintenance and the effective implementation of modern safety systems are essential for the long-term safety and reliable operation of dams.
During the inspection, UJVN Limited officials presented detailed information on the project’s progress, safety measures and operational arrangements.
