Nainital prepares for Gandhi & Shastri Jayanti

Nainital is now gearing up to celebrate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2. The outlines of the upcoming commemorative programmes were firmed up at a   meeting presided over by the additional district magistrate Saurabh Aswal.  

It was decided that prabhat pheries would be taken out at Haldwani, Ramnagar, Kaladhungi, Betalghat, Lalkuan, Dhari and Shri Kainchi Dham tehsils and other places in the district from 6.30 AM to 7.30 AM on Friday. Students, public representatives, religious and social organisation leaders aside from the general people will participate in the procession. The procession will start from near the statue of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant at Mallital and end at Tallital Gandhi Chowk. After this, the national flag will be hoisted on government buildings at 8 AM and the portraits of Gandhi and Shastri will be garlanded.

Besides, all the civic bodies have been instructed to conduct sanitation drives in parks, railway stations, bus stands, slums and other public places in their respective areas.

Further, debates and other awareness programmes will be held in the schools on the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi.  Elimination of single-use plastic will also figure in such programmes.
