MoUs worth Rs 40,000 crore inked in Uttarakhand Energy Conclave
Power sector holds immense potential for investors in U’khand : CM

In a major boost to the power sector in the State, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 40,423 crore were inked in the Uttarakhand Energy Conclave held at the State secretariat on Tuesday. The conclave was the part of the ‘destination Uttarakhand- Global Investors Summit’. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the energy sector holds immense potential and this sector was at the base of the concept of a separate State. He said that the State government is committed to increase investment in Uttarakhand and for this 27 new policies have been formulated and many processes have been simplified.
He said that Global Investors Summit-2023 will be organised at FRI on December 8 and 9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the summit. Dhami said that taking inspiration from ‘vibrant Gujarat’ model work on ‘destination Uttarakhand’ is being done. In the conclave the CM keenly heard the suggestions of the entrepreneurs and directed the officers to ensure that the suggestions should be taken seriously and implemented on ground. The CM directed the District Magistrates (DMs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) to hold regular meetings with the people associated with the industries. He assured that the State government will act as a collaborator with the people setting up industries in the State.
The additional chief secretary Radha Raturi said that the energy sector holds immense potential and for this all the three power corporations should work in tandem with one another. She said that employment opportunities in the State will augment with increasing investment. Raturi said the regular review meetings will be held to ensure that every possible help is extended to the entrepreneurs planning to invest in the energy sector in Uttarakhand.
The secretary, power, R Meenakshi Sundaram said that consistent efforts are being made to make Uttarakhand self-reliant in the power sector. He averred that Hydropower policy has been implemented in the State to encourage investment and employment with the help of hydropower projects. The State has also formulated a new solar policy as well, he added.
The additional secretary Ranjana Rajguru said that solar policy has been implemented for encouraging green energy and reduction in carbon emissions. Under the policy the State has taken up a target of generating 2500 MW solar power till 2027.
The Managing Director (MD) of UJVN limited Sandeep Singhal, MD UPCL Anil Kumar, MD PTCUL, PC Dhyani and entrepreneurs of power sector attended the conclave.
