In latest news from Doon, with the State Finance minister Premchand Aggarwal having stirred a controversy by his remark in the State Assembly on the first day of the Budget session that Uttarakhand was not exclusively meant for those living in the mountainous regions of the State, the Opposition Congress has been demanding his resignation, citing his blatant attempt to drive a wedge between the people of the hills and plains.
As part of the Congress-helmed movement targeting the minister, the Haridwar unit of the party staged a demonstration and torched the State government in its effigy at Devpura Chowk of the town. Many district Congress leaders along with followers participated.
Addressing the gathering, the district Congress president Aman Garg said that unless Aggrawal quits they would go for a full-blown agitation to force him to quit.
