Assault, vandalism reported from Premnagar cafe over billing dispute

Coming close on the heels of the night club billing brawl that ended up in the death of a retired brigadier in Rajpur, an owner of a café in Premnagar area of the city was allegedly attacked by a group of customers with rods and sticks over a billing complaint. The complainant who co-owns the bar, Anyam Kumar Singh, who is also a law student, said that the billing dispute of Rs 18,000 dated five months back. “We owe them Rs 18,000 and whenever we reminded them of the amount pending they would abuse and threaten us over phone,” he told police.
Later on February 2, the accused- Yatharth and Garvit alias Vikrant- along with four others, allegedly barged into the cafe with sticks and rods. At that time, the complainant was not present, but his partner and a friend were there. The accused allegedly called him to the spot and then attacked him as soon as he arrived. They also assaulted his partner and friend who tried to save him. During the incident, a female customer also got injured while trying to intervene.
The accused damaged the cafe property as per the complaint. Since then, the cafe has remained closed. The complaint was lodged at the Premnagar police station on Wednesday after the complainant learnt that the accused had been trying to mislead the police by making false claims about their own injuries.
Premnagar police station officers said they have received the complaint and further investigation is underway.
