The nationwide Drug-Free India week, observed from June 17 to June 26, culminated on Friday. A mega awareness programme was organised at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (DSV), Haridwar to mark the day. The week-long campaign, organized under the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan witnessed participation of more than 1.31 crore citizens across the country.
The valedictory national event in Haridwar was attended by union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar.
The union minister also led a massive ‘Nasha Mukt Rally’ in Haridwar, in which about 4,000 youngsters and volunteers participated. In the event the minister administered the pledge against drug abuse and the ageing with dignity pledge.
In his address, Kumar lauded the overwhelming public response, stating that the success of the week highlights the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to creating a drug-free society.
In the programme, a memoranda of understanding was inked between the department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar. Under the umbrella of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) and the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), this partnership will strengthen institutional frameworks for grassroots awareness, drug demand reduction, community mobilization, and the promotion of the welfare of senior citizens across India.
In the nationwide programme more than 1.31 crore citizens engaged in a wide array of activities, including Nasha Mukti Mitra registration drives, street plays, youth seminars, slogan-writing, e-pledge campaigns, painting competitions and community Yoga sessions designed to align health and substance-free wellness.
In the programme special recognition was given to Nasha Mukti Mitras for their exemplary grassroots contributions, alongside the distribution of awards to the winners of various state-level competitions.
The valedictory programme was also attended by the pro vice-chancellor of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Chinmay Pandya and others.
