Need to modify higher education institutes as per the NEP-2020: CS

The chief secretary Anand Bardhan has emphasised on the need to modify all higher educational institutions in the State in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP)- 2020. He was addressing a review meeting of the Higher Education department at the State secretariat on Monday. 

In the meeting, the CS sought detailed information regarding government and non-government universities and colleges in the State from the perspective of the NEP-2020 and gave necessary instructions. 

 He directed the vice chancellors present in the meeting that all government universities should prepare their five year plan. He also asked all universities to prepare short-term, medium-term and long-term plans to meet all quality standards. The CS said that all government universities in the State should focus on obtaining NAAC and NIRF accreditation. He asked all 11 universities to prepare a mechanism for evaluation and ranking. He gave the task to all the government and aided colleges to prepare state-level ranking parameters in the next eight to ten days. 

The CS added that a student tracing mechanism should be developed and that internship participation should be included alongside courses. He emphasized the need for universities to engage with industry, NGOs and societies for this purpose. The CS also called for universities to focus on teaching foreign languages. 

Secretary Higher Education BVRC Purushottam, additional secretary Manuj Goyal and VCs of government universities attended the meeting.
