Jhanda Chowk set for Ardh Kumbh makeover

To speed up preparations for the  Ardh Kumbh Mela, the Mela officer Sonika conducted on-site inspections of various areas of the city, including Kankhal, Devpura, Rishikul and Chandi Chowk. Plans for the improvement and beautification of Kankhal’s historic Jhanda Chowk were discussed with local residents and officials following which the Mela officer directed that the proposed work be started soon, the area be kept encroachment-free and railings, lighting and building facades improved.

The possibilities of developing footpaths, beautification, and small parking lots at Railway Station Road, Shivmurti Chowk, Devpura and Rishikul were also discussed. Instructions were given to keep the under-construction ghats near the Rishikul bridge and the Ganga Canal track clean and encroachment-free.

A special plan is being firmed up for the improvement of Chandi Chowk. The National Highway Authority would improve the intersection, while the HRDA and the Municipal Corporation would undertake the beautification work, she instructed.

Besides, the installation of an attractive Nandi statue at Chandi Chowk is also being considered, Sonika informed.
