Blood Garuda service delayed at district hospital

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
The commencement of the Blood Garuda service, which was anticipated to begin soon, has been delayed at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital. In a recent discussion with the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr VS Chauhan, it was stated that the Dehradun district magistrate has mandated this initiative.
The hospital administration has begun preparations for its implementation. Following the district magistrate’s approval, the hospital administration also placed an order for an electric four-wheeled vehicle to facilitate the Blood Garuda service. Initially, it was expected that the vehicle would be delivered this week, allowing the service to start soon after.
Regarding the current situation, Dr Chauhan informed that the commencement of the Blood Garuda service has indeed faced delays. He said that the hospital has not yet received the ordered electric vehicle from the supplier. Despite maintaining regular communication with the company, they continue to provide daily excuses for the delay in delivery, he averred.
However, it is anticipated that the electric vehicle will arrive within two to three days and the Blood Garuda service will hopefully begin next week in the hospital premises, he stated.
Dr Chauhan also performed a personal inspection of the hospital facilities on Friday. He said that some issues were identified during his tour of the hospital that were deemed unsuitable. Consequently, the relevant officials have been instructed to address and rectify these issues, which include hygiene standards and window glass conditions.
It will be recalled that it was previously agreed in a meeting that the Chief Development Officer (CDO) would be responsible for appointing a driver for the electric vehicle for the Blood Garuda service. In this context, Dr Chauhan earlier informed that he has already notified the CDO about the vehicle acquisition. Until a driver is appointed, the hospital’s current driver will manage the Blood Garuda service. The total expenditure for the vehicle is approximately Rs 11 lakh. He also informed that a fee of Rs 50 will be charged for this service; however, it will be provided free of charge to underprivileged attendees.
