The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) veterinary section while conducting an inspection at meat shops in different parts of the city on Wednesday issued notices amounting to around Rs 80,000 to seven shops for violating norms. The drive focused on cleanliness, hygiene and necessary documents.
Of these, three shops were located on Sahastradhara Road, two in Chunabhatta and two in Bhagat Singh colony. The shop operators were given a window of three days to complete the required documentation and obtain necessary NOCs, MCD sources said.
A challan worth Rs 16,500 was issued to one shop, while chickens were seized from another. Banned polythene was also seized from three shops. At one of these shops, chickens were found in extremely unhygienic and poor conditions, huddled along with some dead chickens. The owner was directed to maintain cleanliness and keep the chickens in proper and hygienic conditions.
In another case, a shop operator fled during the inspection after pulling down the shutters. Officials said that the shop appeared to have rotten buffalo meat or meat of a protected animal. A notice was pasted on the closed shop, directing the operator to appear with the required documents and NOCs within the stipulated period.
The senior municipal veterinary officer, Dr Varun Aggarwal said that if the identified meat stores fail to appear and complete the required process within three days, they would write to the Dehradun district magistrate for further action.
