A student of a private university alleged that a police officer had demanded a bribe from him during checking at Kandoli Chowk and assaulted him after he refused to pay. The student also alleged that police personnel had beat him and deleted a video of the incident from his phone. He filed a complaint with the CM portal and senior police officials through email.
The student, Amritam Anshumaan said the incident had occurred on August 17 when he was travelling towards Bidholi with a female classmate. He alleged that police stopped him for riding without a helmet and took the keys of his bike. As per his complaint, the police officer then demanded Rs 2,500 and threatened to add further charges against him when he refused to pay.
He claimed that the police officer had abused and assaulted him and pushed his female friend. He also alleged that he was taken inside Kandoli Chowki, where he was beaten with a lathi and belt, causing injuries to his arms and hands.
However, police denied the allegations. The circle officer (CO) Swapnil Moyal said that the allegations against the police were completely false. “The accused were actually fighting on the road and also misbehaved with the police. A case was registered against three accused, including Amritam, based on the entire sequence of events and they were produced before a magistrate,” he added.
