Amid political furore generated by his decision to take a break of 15-day from the politics and speculations in political circles about his political future, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat met the chairman of the party’s election campaign committee Pritam Singh at the residence of the latter on Tuesday.
In the meeting in which the two leaders remained closeted for about three hours, elaborate discussion on the party strategy and induction of the new leaders into the party is learnt to have occurred. In the meeting Singh also reportedly requested Rawat to come out of his self-imposed break from politics. The two leaders however remained tight-lipped on what transpired in their meeting. Rawat politely refused to say anything to the waiting journalists. “I am on an earned leave’’, he quipped.
Singh said that Rawat is the senior most leader of the party and nothing should be inferred from the meeting. “We discussed many things. He is committed to Congress’s return to power. We also need his direction for the Vidhan Sabha election of 2027,’’ he said.
Rawat is apparently annoyed by attempts to side-line him within the party in the State. When his recent request to induct Sanjay Negi into the party was put on hold by the party high command he decided to take a break from politics which created furore within the Congress party.
