One killed as truck plunges into Alaknanda

One person was killed as the truck he was driving crashed into a 200-meter-deep gorge near Helang under Jyotirmath block in Chamoli district on Friday. Upon receiving the information, police and SDRF teams rushed to the scene with necessary rescue equipment. Upon reaching the scene, they found that the truck had first plunged into the gorge and then ended up in Alaknanda river.

During the rescue operation, the team found that only the driver was there in the vehicle, who was thrown out of the vehicle and was stuck about 150 meters down the hill. After an NDRF team arrived to assist the operation, the rescuers reached the driver who was found dead.

The teams retrieved the body and handed it over to the district police for necessary action. The police station in-charge, Devendra Rawat said that the deceased has been identified as Gopal Singh (34), a resident of Nepal. .
